Field Peas

Plant this legume with oats for a real soil-building crop. The grains provide ample biomass, as well as stalks for the peas to climb, and the peas provide nitrogen. Field pea residues decompose rapidly, contributing up to 1.7 tons of dry matter and 100 pounds of nitrogen per acre. Field peas like cool moist growing conditions and are frost-tolerant once established. Seed at 70-160#/acre or 4#/1000 sq. ft. Organic.
