HELLO! Welcome to the thirteenth annual seed catalog from The Maine Potato Lady,™ your source
for quality seed potatoes. We have so enjoyed sharing with you the many varieties of potatoes,
heirlooms, and new releases that we have grown and eaten over the years. For forty years, a very
important part of my life has been growing most of the food for our family. Not only do we reap the
incredible deliciousness of fresh, nutritious food grown from our healthy soil, but we gain measurable
control over one very important part of our existence. There has been a resurgence of interest in one
of our most important staple foods, grains — or more specifically, heritage grains, the ancient seeds
that have been grown and passed down through the centuries.
Many modern grains are substantially
different from their ancient ancestors, and some people who cannot eat modern wheat find the ancient
grains more digestible. My interest has been so piqued by these heritage grains that we are offering
them for the first time, with a selection grown here in Central Maine by a thriving young grain farmer.
Wow, just thinking of the coming growing season, preparing the place in my garden to plant these
seeds that hold the memories and diversity of many lifetimes, gives me hope for the future. Oh, I can
already smell the fragrance of fresh bread or cornbread right from the oven! Not much can make me
feel better than to sit down to supper with my family to enjoy a meal of food that we have grown
NEW THIS SEASON! For 2019, we are delighted to offer a new product line: Heritage Grains.
Choose from among two wheat varieties and three flint corns. All are certified organic and locally
grown! Also new this year: Two allium transplants, two sweet potatoes, fall-planted French grey
shallots and a garlic, a yellow peony, and a few gardening accessories. And of course, as always, we
have several new potato varieties for you to try! And this year for the first time, we've designated all
the heirloom or heritage varieties throughout the catalog.
